
Seagate has announced its super thin 2.5-inch hard drive for super-slim notebooks. The Seagate Momentus HDD thin measuring only 7 mm thick. The unit is also one of the lowest priced storage options for netbooks, ultra portable laptops.
No pricing information for the Seagate Momentus hard drive Thin, but we know that these units will be shipping to OEM partners and integrator in the very beginning of 2010. The thin Momentus will come in two storage capacity options, 250GB and 160GB that are suitable for netbooks. Read more in the press release below:
SEAGATE UNVEILS WORLD thinner 2.5-inch Hard Drive for Laptop COMPUTERS
SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. – December 14, 2009 – Seagate Technology (NASDAQ: STX) today announced the Momentus ® thin unit, the world’s thinnest 2.5-inch hard disk drive and ultra-portable notebook entry level High-end netbooks, the backup devices and consumer electronics. In foil-7mm high – 25 percent thinner than traditional 9.5-inch laptop 2.5 hard drives – the Momentus drive fine offers original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system integrators significantly lower cost per gigabyte of solid-state storage and 1.8-inch drives, enabling a new class of entry-level thin notebooks.
Of all the netbook computers available today, 90 percent of 9.5 feature 2.5-inch portable units, because solid state and 1.8-inch hard drives are largely cost prohibitive for this market . The Thin Momentus drive provides storage for lower cost thin and portable netbooks, enabling PC manufacturers to offer systems that reach a broader market.

Thin rivals traditional Momentus 2.5-inch disk drives in notebook performance and energy efficiency, enabling lightweight chassis designs in all segments of mobile computing that allows both equipment manufacturers design higher value on the high end netbooks for upselling easier and to create greater value for differentiation between consumer and commercial notebooks. The Thin Momentus drive has two capacity points – 250 GB and 160 GB – 8 MB cache, a Serial ATA interface and a 5400RPM spin speed 3Gb/second. The album is scheduled to ship to OEM partners Seagate and integrators in January 2010.
