One solution being developed by Panasonic and Sanyo her new partner, which uses lithium-ion batteries to serve as a backup system for your home energy when other sources of electricity are out (solar, wind, etc). This standby power system is able to sustain its energy needs when primary sources are not available.
The Lithium-ion backup power system claims to be able to power up your home for a week. The battery also will be combined with a system that allows users to control the use of electricity on television. The company plans to launch the backup battery system by the year 2011.
The system seems promising and is considered more efficient than existing fuel cells for home use.
