KT, South Korea‘s second largest mobile operator and the sole to distribute the iPhone in the local market (for now at least), hopes to sell 100,000 to 500,000 units of the famous Apple smartphone. IPhone will be available through KT from November 28.
KT did not announce the price at which it will sell the iPhone, but analysts believe that the phone will sell for 350,000 to 400,000 won ($ 300 to $ 345) with a contract agreement and a data plan.
Hwang Sung-jin, an analyst at Prudential Investment and Securities, said that the company “offers rate plans ranging from ₩ 45,000 to 65,000 won per month in addition to adequate subsidies to subscribers, a stable demand will be created” .
In Japan, about 200,000 iPhones were sold since 2008, while in China (the world market’s largest mobile phone), 30,000 units have been sold since 30 October this year. These figures may suggest that KT will not get selling 500,000 iPhones in the short term, but I guess it’s better to wait and see.
